Fibromyalgia and Sleep

Does Fibromyalgia stop you from sleeping well?

We’re here to help.

Fibromyalgia and poor sleep go hand in hand

It can be extremely difficult for fibromyalgia and chronic pain sufferers to get to sleep and many say they feel lucky if they reach 5 hours of slumber. The correlation between constant pain and difficulty sleeping tends to be a vicious cycle: the pain makes it difficult to fall asleep, but the sleep deprivation makes it harder for the body to repair itself.

Studies have shown that just a few night’s of poor sleep can lead to increased pain sensitivity, so if you’re suffering from fibromyalgia, your pain may feel worse after a particularly poor night’s sleep. On the other hand, sleeping well can increase your pain threshold, therefore making pain more tolerable for some people.

Good sleep is by no means a cure for painful conditions such as fibromyalgia, but getting a comfortable, refreshing night’s sleep can certainly help to improve symptoms for most people.

Are you struggling to sleep?

We are experts in sleep. We understand that everybody is different, so we work with you to tackle your individual sleep problems. From sleep therapist sessions and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, to mattresses and mattress toppers, we can help you to improve your sleep when suffering from fibromyalgia.

Firstly, we need to look at the cause of your poor sleep.

What is disrupting your sleep?

For many fibromyalgia and chronic pain sufferers, it can be almost impossible to get comfortable in bed, therefore taking a long time to fall asleep and often waking during the night due to being uncomfortable. If this sounds like you, your mattress may be partly to blame.

You may also find you struggle to sleep due to a racing mind, or stress. Worrying about sleep often makes it more difficult to fall asleep, so it’s important to understand the causes of your sleep disruption, and work on them one at a time.

Meet the Selectus Essential Mattress Topper:

Pressure relief and soft comfort, night after night

The Essential Topper from our Selectus range adds a layer of super soft comfort to your existing mattress.

Unlike most mattress toppers, we don’t use foam because over time this compresses and loses its structure. Instead, we use multi award-winning microsprings. The microsprings offer pressure relief, helping you to get comfortable and fall asleep faster. They also allow air to flow throughout the topper, keeping you cool. What’s more, because we use springs, the topper won’t compress over time and will last much longer than other foam versions.

I would very much recommend SleepHubs. I never thought CBT would work for me, but it has and it’s been great and very much worth the work I’ve put into it. I am now sleeping so much better!”
